Where he lives on the Pacific Coast, the trees grow and grow so high their tip touches the highest clouds; and the puddle on the floor reflects a sky often too gray, almost black. In my land, bathed by the Caribbean sea the breeze is always warm and the flowers bloom restlessly in a permanent summer.

Yes, far away one from the other, but together on the same page…

Chevy Crespo
Lately Chevy only talks about “The Cave”, a cache hidden in a ravine in black Peruvian Cordillera. It has several project to equip, including a pathway called “Healing” (8b+). There we arrived from Huaraz to continue with his work and to enjoy around 10 days of the mountain and hiking. We slept in Andrew’s shelter, an argentinian mountain and San Pedro lover, which hosted us with great kindness.
We went down and got loaded of material. Some days we went back at night and almost without food, but the beat is rewarding from watching how Chevy hikes, which is like some kind of species of lizard dancing on the rock.

While working I am used to make some tests in order to help me deciding the aesthetic I will use for a project. This is one of them, a portrait taken in Vigo last spring. “Well, if it isn´t what I´m looking for but I like the image I will upload it to Espejo Negro”

These three photographs are from an specific day. It was the day that I went to pick up one of my square photos, after being rejected by the jury of an exhibition that I wanted to be a part of.  In this specific moment I was waiting for the bus to get in, and my photograph was laying by this beautiful tree.

When you don’t get chosen for the exhibition, you have to pick up your “piece of art” in a 15 days maximum. If you leave it, they can do whatever they want with it.

Obviously I went to pick it up, because I like it a lot. If I don’t have this love for my photo, who is going to have it??

The photograph is wrapped, so in this post we are not be able to see it. Maybe a little forward ☺.

SALVAPOST

Salvador posing with a Yashica camera that once belonged to his grandfather.

I’d met this brilliant little guy who’s mind is flooded with infinity imagination and stories in the Master of Documentary Photography in Madrid. Through his eyes a simple photograph could have endless pages of interesting interpretation and possible origins and ending, always with a twisted spanish humor. Needless to say he has helped me to mature my sense of perception and therefore my approach to photography.

Now wherever I go, if I see a good picture I will ask myself, “What would Salva think of this?” .

Arja

A portrait of Arja Hyytiäinen and her son/daughter.

I had the pleasure to meet this amazing photographer. One of the things she told me was “do the pictures you want, just do photographs, enjoy it…”

I seriously recommend that you look into google and put an eye on her excellent work.

It is a shame for me that I don’t remember if her child is her son or daughter, but otherwise the immense love is the same.
